Overview

The largest plate in this group: 400 mm diameter, 5000 W at 400 V, cast edge and a 42 mm overall height, mounted on a screw bolt with two sets of three screw clamps. E.G.O. part number 12.40670.231. Note the related 12.40870.007 is the same size and rating but uses four sets of two connections — count the terminals before ordering.

Finding your E.G.O. number

E.G.O. manufactures the cast-iron plates fitted to most European commercial ranges, whatever badge is on the appliance. The ten-digit E.G.O. number is stamped on the back of the plate and is the only reference that identifies it without ambiguity — distributor codes differ from one supplier to the next. The prefix already tells you the shape and size:

When a hot plate needs replacing

• The plate stays cold, or heats unevenly, after the energy regulator and switch test good.
• An open circuit or an out-of-tolerance resistance reading across the terminals.
• A cracked, dished or warped cast surface that stops pans sitting flat.
• Corrosion or burn marks around the terminal block under the plate.
• A protector that trips repeatedly with a correctly sized pan on a clean plate.

Ordering the right plate

If the E.G.O. number is legible, order from that alone. If it has burnt off, match four things: diameter, wattage, voltage and terminal type. Plates of the same diameter are built in 230 V, 400 V and 440 V and look identical — fitting the wrong voltage destroys the plate.

Installation

Isolate the appliance at the mains before removing the top panel. Photograph the wiring before disconnecting it, transfer the leads one at a time, and torque the terminals to the manufacturer figure. Confirm earth continuity before returning the unit to service. Installation should be carried out by a qualified technician.
